Our Committees
To be successful in executing the vision and mission of Utica National Alumni Association 1981, Inc., we need functioning committees consisting of active and engaged members. Our committees are the backbone of our association. Please consider joining one of the following committees.
Executive Committee
Reports to the president and the Executive Board. The committee's overall responsibility is to support the president as well as perform tasks assigned by the president. The committee will make recommendations and policies to the Executive Board. The committee will hear recommendations from members and other committees. The committee chair will appoint its members.
Scholarship Committee
The scholarship committee is composed of selected individuals who preside over the publication, solicitation, and management of scholarship awards for awarding organizations. In addition, the scholarship committee will typically draft submission rules, ensure procedural fairness, and evaluate submissions. The scholarship committee is generally tasked with evaluating applicants for eligibility and worthiness, assessing achievements, academic record, letters of recommendation, and personal essays in order to serve prizes with the most deserving applicant(s). The committee is also tasked with raising funds to support the Utica National Alumni Association (UNAA) Endowed Scholarship as well as create a scholarship(s) named for UNAA. The Utica Campus National Alumni Association seeks to maintain and strengthen the Legacy of our institution and community, while helping improve the outcome of deserving students by providing the gift of education.
Membership Committee
Performs the following functions: recruitment of members, retaining members, devising periodic plans for weekend recruiting, and set aside the time to meet with perspective members to explain membership benefits. The committee is an essential part of the Utica National Alumni Association. Although this committee is designed to increase the membership, it is the general duty of all members to recruit for the association.
Liaison to HCC President
Serves as the UNAA Information Security Liaison to the HCC President or Leadership as designated, in capacity and designated by the President of the UNAA. Submits information request to HCC Leadership as deem necessary by the UNAA President or designated representative. Provides updates-insight and interpretations of received information as requested by the UNAA President or Leadership. Serves faithfully, diligently and with integrity, as a member of the Utica National Alumni Association.
Nominating Committee
The members of the committee shall be appointed by the President at least one year prior to the proposed election. The Nominating Committee shall contact all organized chapters and members requesting nomination to be submitted before February of the year of the election.The committee shall submit to the Secretary all nominations it receives for office in the National Alumni Association before February 15, of the year in which the election is held. Numbered ballots are prepared and sent eligible alumni. Ballots shall be returned to the Secretary for tallying no later than one week before the general alumni meeting. The committee, or persons appointed by the President, shall count the ballots and report to the general body before it adjourns.
Fundraising Committee
Develops and executes successful fundraising programs and events. This includes strategies to promote contributions to the organization. Also looks at ways to promote sponsors and participants to become involved with the organization. The committee promotes the organization through social media and word of mouth coverage, to build a solid foundation for continued support of the Utica Campus.
Social Media and Public Relations Committee
Handles all communications via the various social media platforms. The committee will be responsible for all public relations relative to the alumni association. The committee will update the various platforms once the information is received.
Pre-Alumni Committee
Consists of young people on the HCC - Utica Campus, who are mentored by members of the Utica National Alumni Association.
The students can be freshman or sophomore members. We offer workshops on various topics during the year to prepare them for some of the challenges that they will face throughout their career. Some of the topics include: proper dress and grooming, and what are taxes and how to stay on top of proper filing, when applicable. Some of our fun activities have included competition bowling among the Pre-alums and the Alumni members. Some of the students have received Scholarships from the Alumni Association in the past. Members are encouraged to join UNAA when they complete their studies.
Pantry Committee
Originated to help the students on the Utica Campus. Some of the students do not have transportation, and may need some emergency snacks and other essentials at unexpected times. The Pantry is open to all students and provides snacks, health care items, toiletries, and other everyday needs at no cost to the students. The Pantry receives generous food and monetary donations from individuals, churches, various organizations, and businesses to make sure that the students are comfortable in their stay away from home.
Finance Committee
Provides and reports accurate and current records of all finances received and disbursed for the UNAA. This committee works under the direction of the treasurer.
Homecoming Committee
Consists of volunteers that work under the direction and guidance of the Alumni Association President and Vice President. Committee members are expected to collaborate among themselves and with college/community officials, potential vendors, and others as necessary to develop a plan and provide a proposal to Alumni President/Vice President for an enjoyable and memorable Homecoming event.
